James Lockett land transfer, 1804 Oct. 26.

This document, dated October 26, 1804, contains articles of agreement for the transfer of fifty acres in Jessamine County, Kentucky, to James Lockett from John Young, Jr. for the sum of seventy pounds. These articles detail how Lockett was to meet the financial obligation. Lockett was to provide the use of his slave Bob to Young for one year. In return, Young was to clothe Bob and "return him as well clothed as he received him." Young was also to return twenty pounds to Lockett for Bob's labor in the year. Lockett was also to provide Young with one year's hire of "Nine pounds ten good Cattle paid any time when called upon," one "Rifle Gun at five pounds Eight shilling and one sixty gallon still at seven shillings and sixpence per gallon." The still was to be delivered in one year from the signing of these articles and Lockett apparently had the obligation to repair it if it went out of service. The balance of the seventy pounds was to be paid by Lockett in "good whiskey" on March 1, 1805.
